sex, drugs

On principle, I try not to do too much blogging of the "got up, played the harp, whinged about tax, went to the pub" school.  So TwTwTw's fallow periods mean I got up, played the harp, whinged etc. Happily, a blog post has been created for me, with the help of Jessica's tag and the new edition of the Duden Grammatik:

Find the nearest book.
Turn to page 123.
Go to the fifth sentence on the page.
Copy out the next three sentences and post to your blog.
Name the book and the author, and tag three more folks.

"In ähnlicher Weiser entspringen Fragen mit einer stilisierten Kontur nicht primär dem Interesse des Sprechers an einer Antwort auf das Erfragte.  Fragen, die mit ein Sprecher ein echtes Interesse an der Klärung eines Sachverhalts hat, noch etwa als aufrichtige Einladung, ein Gespräch zu beginnen oder fortzusetzen.  Fragen dieser Art wirken vielmehr häufig stereotyp, routinehaft oder desinteressiert."

This is about intonation of the voice in questions ("Erweiterte Grammatik der Intonation").

At this juncture I'm hastily tagging George, the Room (if back from lunch), Brian, and off out to buy some new books.

be thankful I don't take it all

If my accountant is reading this, I am doing my tax records.  An hour a day every day, religiously - except for yesterday, when I was out drinking wine, and Monday, when I was at the sauna (claiming it back - is for muscular health), and tonight I only did half an hour because I was playing the Chaconne of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Must be the only time of year the self-employed are heard to bemoan how much we've all earned.  I've spent all my money, so they shouldn't charge me any tax on it.  Tom said "it doesn't quite work like that, Helen."
